Math Content

This year students will be taking everything they have learned k-5 and building on those foundational skills. The following is a breakdown of major skills that we will learn each quarter.

 

Quarter 1:line graphs, coordinate grids, multiplication (up to 3 digits by 2 digits), division (2 digits into 4 digits), and volume of solid figure.

 

Quarter 2:fraction models to divide, multiply a whole number by a fraction, place value related to the metric system.

 

Quarter 3:estimate +/- fractions, convert problems in the measurement system, multiply decimals, divide decimals by a whole number.

 

Quarter 4:classify quadrilaterals, and then the rest of the quarter is used to review for the EOG's.

 

*Each quarter we will work on word problems as related to the content I am teaching.

*If your child does not have their basic multiplication facts memorized please work with them nightly to get these memorize. Much of what we do in 5th grade math depends on them knowing their multiplication facts.
